The snowfield beneath Archenkopf is very dangerous, especially in late summer, because there may be bare ice without covering snow. Several mountaineers already fell a victim to it. So crampons ("Grödeln") are useful at every time of the year.
On the other hand, I don't think the snowfield is too dangerous and I don't want to scare people away!
I have crossed the snowfield two times:
Last November there was a lot of snow, the snow was soft and therefore it was easy to cross.
Two weeks ago there was almost no snow at all - at the most 10 meters. But this time the snow was hard and in the morning it could have been difficult. But the snowfield was small and you could have gone around it!

Route CommentProbably the most beautiful route starts in the Bluntau Valley near Golling. From Baerenwirt it is about 3 hours to Stahlhaus.
