That looks likea North American Bullfrog!
They can jump 3 to 6 feet.

grenouilleMy guess is Leopard Frog (rana pipiens), based on the pattern of dots and the ridge running from the eyeball back toward the rear hip. Easy to tell: how big was it? Bullfrogs are big, typically over 10 cm - bigger than your palm - and sometimes twice that - as big as your hand. Leopard frogs are about 5cm - they'd fit on your palm with room to spare.

photo), that does look like a Northern Leopard Frog. Even though their numbers are declining, Vermont still must have a vast number of them! Great job! :)
I'll be able to sleep better tonight, knowing that you didn't step on this little guy.
