While hiking up the SW side of Fortress, I noticed I was walking on pumice. It hadn't occurred to me until then that I was only about 9 miles from Glacier Peak's summit. Just one more reason to visit this beautiful area.
It's incredible isn't it? I found the same thing on nearby Red Mountain.
