Compton Peak Bushwhack
I started on Lands Run Fire Road on the west side of Compton Peak, and bushwhacked up an old trail to Skyline Drive. The trail was clogged with blowdowns and I was besieged by ticks. Fortunately, none of them managed to bite me. I took the AT across Skyline Drive to the Dickey Ridge Trail, and hiked up a little side trail to the top of Fort Windham Rocks. From there, I followed the Dickey Ridge Trail to the Lands Run Fire Road. On the way back down the fire road, I made a stop at Lands Run Falls. A good hike on a hot day.
I also hiked up to Fort Windham Rocks via the AT from SR 610 in mid-November 2007. Quite a different experience. The visibility was about 30 feet, and a combination of drizzle and sleet was falling that day.
