For centuries Stirovaca...

For centuries Stirovaca (1100m) valley on Mid Velebit was center of forest exploitation. Perfectly straight and up to 40m high spruce trees were ideal for ship mast's. Dozens of Ox's used to pull one trunk to over 6 hour’s distant coast in 19th century. For them it was whole day journey. In 1999 Stirovaca was included in newly founded North Velebit NP which marked the end of forest exploitation. In deep forests of Stirovaca there are several beautiful meadows where some private leisure houses can be found. This is Borovacki padez meadow. Photo: Aleksandar Gospic
