Amazing...Hard to comprehend the scale of the penitentes.

Re: Amazing...Thanks Derek.
We messed up a bit when choosing the route to Pissis East and actually crossed this field. Very hard work to make any way at all sometimes. In some areas of the field the penitentes were over five meters high.

Re: Amazing...Penitentes fieldsYou can actually get really lost in a penitentes field. In this case we had good navigation help from the sun. At times when were not sure about the closest "open ground" and which way to go to reach it, we had to climb a penitente to get an overview. Sometimes you needed help from the axes to reach a height from which you could see, other times you could find a way up to a viewpoint on broken penitentes.
If you're not in a hurry etc. I would recommend you to have a look inside a penitentes field if you have the chance. It's an odd experience.
