Early April, road mostly dry but still a little muddy in places.

Nice hike
It was a beautiful day for a hike. I was a little worried about a 7 mile RT, for my 8 year old son, but he was fine. 2 hours up 1 hour down, piece of cake.
Not impressed at all, you hike on a road for a few miles up and there are no significant views on top, then backtrack.

On bike
Was in the area for a mtn bike race and rode/hike a biked up (50/50). I'd say the average grade is 15% with sections near the top around 20%. Good views from the summit, esp. to the SW. Most of the road is quite rough and loose but doable for anyone with good bike handling skills. Up in 1:30, down in 15 minutes.

Ni laterites
I was looking for Ni laterites to analyze for Pt, Pd, Ir and Au. Carried a shovel, 4-lb hammer, mapping Brunton, and lots of other junk. I stayed at the house of a friend who lived on the S base of the mountain; I just walked out his back door to the old road (actually an active mine road at that time).
