Beautiful sunny day. 4F at sunrise in the parkinglot. In T-shirt on East Ridge and sunshine.
Good bootpack all the way to treeline. above treeline path was mostly snowed/blown over and hard to find; In places 5 ft of soft snow (snowshoes)

I'd just turned 18, a complete novice from Ohio. Went with 3 vets.
of Rockies (2 guys +dog). Took crappy ext. frame-pack & heavy gear.
Only some altitude illness on ascent. Rode down scree on way from
summit to a Roosevelt pond camp. Return was rushed short-cut, back
to lot. Had to run downhill to keep sight of others. Knees locked
stiff upon return to apt. [Recovered to bicycle 1,565 mi. to Ohio]
