Very unique hike!
The road situation has changed a little bit now. The road to the skywalk is now entirely paved so at mile marker 6 you have to turn into the ranch complex and follow a dirt road that parallels the main road until you come to the turnoff with the kiosk. The road up to Ray Place was in pretty bad shape higher up, very eroded and washed out forcing us to park about 1.5 miles below Ray Place.
With good route finding down low it is possible to actually avoid most of the brush. Views at the top are incredible.

Success with scratchesEasier than expected hike and road access. Beautiful area, and verrrrry remote.
