AnnoyingI (and the two people on the trail behind me) followed the directions and did the saddle route and had lots of fun, but the other eight people I saw on the mountain were tromping up and down the route shown in the picture. If the NPS really doesn't want anyone on this trail, they should put a sign where it branches off. During the descent off the ridge route, I caught up with a party that left the summit 10 minutes before I did - the trail in the picture really doesn't save any time!

Re: AnnoyingYou make a good point, as the sign requesting the non use of the trail under discussion is (or was, when the photo was taken) somewhere in the immediate vicinity of the visitor center! Later this summer I'll see if the sign is still there, and if so will put a photo of such on the page.
Thanks....

Re: AnnoyingWhen I got to Logan Pass, I noticed that the sign said that the Lower Gardens were closed, so I asked the staff in the building about the approach to Oberlin; they said it was fine to hike the trail that jumps over the chain, but they requested that I avoid the obvious route up the scree. They seemed thankful when I mentioned that I was aware that that route wasn't supposed to be used, but I didn't any sign anywhere. Let me know if you do find one - I'd be curious to know!
