Triple D Attempt
I hiked to the top of Dog Mountain via the Augspurger Trail, as the starting peak of an attempt to complete the Triple D (Dog Mountain, Mt. Defiance, Devil's Rest in a day). I got the first two on the list done, but had to bail on the last one due to some pain and discomfort in the knees of my friend (and driver).

Steep but worthwhile
Took the steep trail up and the Augspurger trail down. Wildflowers were beautiful!

Trail
Quick, easy, scenic. Getting to the true summit was unpleasant.

Winter bliss
Did this one in the snow, from the TH to the summit. I found myself nearly alone at the top, and picked a clear day for great views! The wind made things a little colder, but tucked back near the trees on the South-face I found great protection while enjoying the views.

Scenic route
Took the "easy" route. Enjoyed the scenery and the standard Black Butte Poter at the top.

My Mountain
Summitted My Mountain with my Dad in icy conditions. Good thing I have built in crampons. My first major mountain. Not too bad for a 28 pound 4 month old, eh? Suck it, you city Pomeranians!
Did it again in the flowers 5/31/09. Again in the snow 3/14/10. I own this place!

Beautiful flowers
Great flower display. Also hiked up the following weekend in wet weather.
Beautiful day and much less crowded then other times we've done this hike. We took the more difficult option up and stayed cool in the shade. Enjoyed amazing views of Mt.Hood and Helens along the way and enjoyed a snack at the top. The dog loved it!

End of Springbreak
Weighted down pack gave me a good workout. My girlfriend spanked me on this one (not literally). We took the 3.7 mile route that put us in the shade and snow, but it wasn't too bad.

Crowded
Don't go here when apparently the Mazama's where having some sort of convention. And whats with the backpacks full of climbing gear? Seriously, pickets, and ropes?

How many time can you say that about Dog Mountain.
The snow at the summit was over 7' deep.

One of the best wildflower displays I have ever seen. Continuing to Augspurger was a great idea and the best way to avoid the crowds. I came back in the winter and getting to the true summit was a lot different without a trail or even footprints. I need to explore the east side of the mountain. I've seen cliffs from I-84 that are far from the trails.
