Got a late start with two pooches, around 12:30 or so. The sun was relentless. The views from the summit were incredible. I've been up Park Butte, and I'll have to say that the view from Dock Butte is better in many ways. The horseflies were an annoyance, luckily they prefer the dogs! A great bang for the buck hike, and Blue Lake is a pretty decent swim spot to top it all off.
Sauk Mountain, Dock Butte and Anderson Butte, all in one day. The smoke was pretty thick.

A Good Introduction to the North Cascades
This one made for a great short family hike. Great views toward Baker and Shuksan and down to Baker Lake. I look forward to exploring this region in the future.

Still no fall colors but plenty of snow
WOW MOUNT BAKER! A nice short snowshoe with Gimpilator and GregK above the clouds. The snow came early and it's starting to look like autumn's flaking out.

With my daughter in a toddler backpack (for me to wear), and with a multi-day road maintenance crew about to start working, I had to do this in the early morning hours and finish hiking within a couple of hours roundtrip. Thankfully, I did... and was able to get out of Road 1230 in time before the maintenance crew started working. Otherwise, I was told I might end up waiting four hours or longer to get through. Great views of Mount Baker, especially most of my summit route from June.
Once you gain the final view of the summit, you can ascend directly up climber's left and shave off some time and distance. The boot path is pretty clear. I hit the summit right at sunset. Bagged this after bagging Sauk Mountain.

Dock Butte
This was a snow hike from the trailhead. The main reason to visit Dock Butte is for the great view of Mount Baker. I also hiked to Blue Lake which was frozen.

Amazing day
No. 010, personal climber's log.
Started out at dawn in drizzly conditions, but the clouds were clearing by the time I made it to the summit. Amazing views of baker and shuksan, as well as all other peaks in th area such as the twin sisters.

What's up Dock?
Good fall day. Cool, no precip.. The summits of the Sisters and Baker only peeked through the clouds a little. Saw a mama bear and 2 cubs foraging on the slope to the east of the summit. Still lots of berries around.

Dock Butte
Great Mountain!!! I was surprised that there was still large patches of snow. Some of the most astonishing views of Mt Baker. Started my Sauk Mountain hike at 4:30pm and still had time to go summit Dock Butte before dark. Also, heaps of Toads everywhere.
Did this via the standard trail. There are still patches of snow and snow in fairly respectable amounts about 4500 feet. However these snow areas are nice and gentle rolling knobs. The summit looks a bit steep from right below and I thought I might have to go up some steep snow in my tennis shoes. But when we got close we discovered the trail was melted out as it goes right along the ridge crest up to the summit. For a very tame effort, this has great views of Baker, Shuksan, and along the length of the Cascade range for quite a ways. Pick a clear day, maybe in fall, and enjoy the views.
