Curtis descends a rock slab on our way to Apple and Pear (upper left) on Elk Mountain in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, OK. This is about a 30-35 degree grade--typical of the area, though some can be much steeper. We had hiked to the summit along the class 1 Elk Mountain Trail, then would scramble to Apple and Pear, then on to the valley below. Imaged in March 2008.
