Quandary sounds awesome, we will definately have to hit that up! Next time I am in the area though, we should go to North Table and do the 5.6 Crack. I should have amassed enough gear by then...
Partially wrong anyway. SAY YES TO CRACK!!! Good job. I'd bet money that this is the start of a new way of climbing for you. :-) Great TR and pics as usual.
Thanks. I have a feeling that this will develop into a new way of climbing too! So much for paying off student loans! Now I just have to train real hard on Trad, want to have some fun with 5.9 and 5.10 stuff, but have to get gear placement down so that it is second nature. I will most definately take you up on your offer of Crack, (as long as you don't mean the white powder stuff!)HA! Thanks for the comments, will see you soon,
Hey nice work MMD. Eloquent. Once the trad gets a hold it may not let go too easily. Get rid of half your draws and buy a cam and soon you too will be "all trad, all the (well most of the) time!
...to the wonder world of trad (bolts are still fun too!). Now you can pair up rock climbing with mountaineering - just what you wanted; another 10 lbs in your pack right!?
If you want to hit a nice soft alpine route in RMNP, shoot me an email. There are several fun moderates that top you out at 11,000 feet or so.
I will most definately hit you up for some alpine climbing in RMNP. Is there anything do-able this time of the year, or does one have to wait until spring? Thanks for posting,
Nice post Dan! I read this initially over at 14ers and was delighted to see it spring up here, in detail! Great read! I liked it.
Glad you didn't get hurt. That drop must have launched your heart up into your mouth for a few seconds!! :o)
Thanks, I am glad that you enjoyed the read. I always try to mix what happened with what I was feeling at the time. That way it makes for more of a 'novel read' than just plain facts. Definately got the blood pumping after the fall!
It is nice to see that someone is looking at the rocks too! Man, they have an awesome feel to them as well. If you ever make it out in this area you have to climb here!
It's interesting - a lot different than the sandstone I'm used to in Eldorado Canyon and the Flatirons or the granite of RMNP. It's this weird volcanic basalt stuff (I'm sure Dan could explain it a lot better than me - he's the geologist). I find it has this slimy/slippery feeling. Definitely interesting.

Re: Just say no!!!P.S. I have a full rack and about a dozen other areas in mind with moderates that are even better, just in case you have room for 1 more.

good trI did a double take on the front page, I was like "I know that crack!". :)
Do you have any pics left to add directly to the route pages?
