Chossed out at 8200 ft.

“The worst rock I’ve ever climbed on,” was repeated throughout the group. It was only a 20 ft. notch, but every hand hold pulled loose without much effort. I won’t be back to the North Ridge again. Will you?

Alternate route here

Yes, this was nasty. After pulling a beachball-size rock off I tried the far left side. It was reasonably solid with only a single 5.1 move. But, I would rather try to find a ledge system above this that I would access from the snow field to completely avoid this fissure.

Re: Alternate route here

Our Mazama climb leader called the climb here because of the lateness of the day and the crappy rock. We unfortunately didn't have time to look for an alternate route. I'm glad you got past this point!
