CHIEF MTN
CLIMBED WITH "LITTLE BROTHER" JAMIE MICHAELS PASSING N AND AROUND TO W FACE FOUND COW SCULL ON SUMMIT!
DATE UNCERTAIN - RETURNED WITH VERN INGRAHAM OF WHITEFISH AND CLIMBED VIA THE PARK BOUNDARY SWATH WHICH WAS QUITE A BUSHWACK OVER DOWNED TREES FROM THE COLLAPSE OF MUCH OF THE EAST FACE
Followed the boundary swath between GNP and the Blackfeet Reservation, then hiked up the West Slope route. I love this peak for its location on the edge of the Rockies and the Great Plains. Gordon Edwards had signed into the summit register a day or two before I did and I was bummed to have missed the chance to meet him. At age 20, this was the most serious summit I had attained at the time.
Route Climbed: Southwest Slope Route Date Climbed: August 8, 2005
Bagged the peak for the third time on August 8, 2005. The trail to the base was a bit harder to follow since the piece fall off the front of Chief in the early 90's(?). In fact we lost the trail for a while on the return hike. The instructions and directions on this site were very helpful.
I've climbed this mountain three times, once in 1978, and again in 1979 and most recently in August 2005.
Both times I went up in the 1970's, as a kid, I went with my mom, and brother and a group of folks lead by Bob Low of Cardston.
