These chanterelles, many pounds of them, were growing on an abandoned trail in the Weminuche Wilderness of the San Juan Mountains, Southwest Colorado where I spent a summer as a volunteer Wilderness Ranger after first thru hiking the Colorado Trail 480 miles from Denver to Durango. Once I discovered I could not eat pizza or drink beer because of some silly yak (celiac) I decided the surest way for me to avoid gluten was to load up a back pack without it and go hike in the wilderness. There is no gluten in this image and they were delicious.
