Overview

Marking the divide between the Atlantic climate, where the dominant influence is from the west, and the Mediterranean climate, which is greatly influenced by the south-easterly wind, the Carlit-Campcardós Massif dominates Capcir and Cerdagne. Crossed by the Carol valleys to the west and bordered by the Haute vallée de l’Aude to the east, this area is the location of the highest peaks of the Catalan Pyrenees (Carlit: 2921m, Puig Pedrós: 2905m). The Carlit lake plateau offers a nice scenery of ancient glacier valleys, covered today by lakes. The site is recognised as an Area of Special Conservation Interest under the scope of Natura 2000.
