NO MORE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
A Group of mountaineers from different countries: Guatemala, Italia, Spain and Sweden went to Tenerife to ascend the highest peak from Spain (Teide volcano). They had a common motivation, to send a message to the world: “No more violence against women”.
On December 19th, two women and three men began the ascent by one of the longest route to the summit, a 25 kms hike round trip and 2000 mts gain. (Normal route is an easy trail with 10 kms round trip and 1200 mts gain). That day, strong winds blows about 150 kms per hours and temperature around -15 C. But luckyly the day was sky clear and no rains falls as the days before and after the trip.
On summit they expanded the Guatemalan flag with some info about this shocking statistics based on just one country (Guatemala) in 2009.
But the problem is every where in every country, just in UK three million women experience rape, domestic violence, forced marriage, sexual exploitation and other forms of violence and abuse each year. The impact ranges from physical injury, including death in extreme cases, to long-term mental health problems, social exclusion and substance misuse.
