Bristlecone Pines at sunset

There are many Bristlecone Pines along the South Loop Trail on route to Charleston Peak. Here's a photo of the same trees in early afternoon Spring Mountains, Nevada. November 2007. These ancient trees don't grow very tall. They put more energy into surviving. Their wood is very dense and resistant to invasion by insects and fungi.
