Followed a sheep trail to the top, ended up getting covered in more dust than I ever had on the way down

Looped it
Immediately after the last road fork (mile 3.3 on Dean's directions) there's a nice stream-side campsite on the left. (Nearby cattle are effectively fenced off- no risk of midnight trampling.) In the morning hiked from camp, more or less following Dean's descent route up, except that I crossed the stream and immediately angled up through the junipers to achieve the minor ridge further to the West. Very easy and gradual this way. After Black BM followed ridgeline (highlight of this hike) South to Black Pine Peak. (No register on either peak.)
Then continued South to knob @9,214 ft. then followed ridge SW to and past knob at 8712 ft. Turned NW and continued to just before knob at 7,985 ft, then turn due W to small rise at 7,112 ft, then NW down minor ridge straight back to campsite. Total hike was 7.25 miles, 3,700 feet climbing.
Last 1/2 mile has heavy brush under a canopy of mtn mahogany, but a clear cowpath takes you straight through easily. Last 100 yards back down to road necessitates a minor scramble and slide under a barb wire fence, but otherwise the route is very reasonable. Great views the whole way, and almost no re-tread.
There was bad weather for weeks in WA so Heather and I drove through OR, CA, NV, UT, and ID. We climbed 37 peaks in 19 days. Black Pine HP and Black Pine Peak was such a quick hike we had time for Cache Peak later that afternoon. trip report
