Bharal ( Himalayan blue sheep )

Bharal ( Himalayan blue sheep )

This very nice and friendly wild animal is one of the symbols of the Himalaya. It almost never changed in millions of years and looks very much like the prehystoric goat, the forefather of all goats and sheep, extinct 20 millions years ago. The strange thing about the Bharal is that although it belongs to the sheep family it actually behaves like a goat. It lives on grasses, lichens and hardy herbaceous plants at an altitude between 3000 and 5500 meters. Its main enemies are leopards and men, but this animal it's not in danger of extinction. Seen near Bhojbasa ( 3800 m ).

Re: Bravo!

Thank you! Yes, it looks like some kind of goat but it's a sheep. Beautiful anyway, and probably the best climber of the world, I saw some Bharal running on really terryfing walls above 5000 meters...
