Nice Report!

Hey Walt,
Nice job. Sounds like it got a little wicked route finding near the top. I'd like to do this one too someday. Didn't wearing women's boots turn you into a woman or something? ;^)

Thank'ee

Carolyn, thanks for checking it out. It was a little funky up top, although later in the year the easier way's probably a lot clearer and less rough to get to. Surprisingly enough the women's boots fit really well (shhh... don't tell).

Bear Creek Spire

Walt,
I don't know where you find 'em, but another great climb. Gorgeous views; good pictures, as usual. Loked the write-up. More exposure than I'd like to see. Thought your voice was a little higher the last time we talked; must have been the pointy-toed hiking boots! See you in August.

Appreciate it!

Heh. Thanks! Actually the only structural difference I could seem to find was that maybe those boots were a little more narrow, which is cool with me.

Great photos

Nice shots and great writeup. I've always wanted to do BCS. The NE ridge sounds a bit spicy without a rope!

Re: Great photos

Thanks! Yeah, it was a bit funky there. I have the feeling that there's a much better way to go that I couldn't reach due to snow conditions high up. Or, maybe it's just one of those old-school 4th class climbs that really means "up to 5.5".

Just checked out your sawtooth report - nice read. How'd you like Warbonnet? Did that one about 11 years ago and, like you, didn't get back to camp until 2-3 am or so. Great area....

Re: Great photos

Thanks! Warbonnet was great - the climb was easy compared to the long approach. Thats cool that you did it 11 years ago - that mountain doesn't seem to see that many ascents per year!

Re: Great TR

Hey, thanks... by the way, how do you suppose things happened so that the three tr's on the homepage are all by folks who climbed Warbonnet? It's like, the planets lined up or something....

Walt

Nice trip report. Looks like some gooood exposure. Hope your ass didn't get too wet on the way down and it was a nice ending to the story. Hopefully we'll have a good story to tell if we can do Alpamayo but I'm not going if you wear those girly boots!

Cheers Bud

PS. I'll look for that mule back in the river this season.

Re: Walt

Brad, how's life? Glad you could stop by and check out the story - and you'll be glad to hear I dried on the way out. Alpamayo woudl be great - I hear folks are heading up it again. And if you find my mule in the river, I'll split the gear with you - sound fair?

Nice

That was a great report. I was up there July 9th and since I lack the skills to do the Spire I just hiked around the area. I remember looking at the peak and seeing the white streak where you glissaded down and thought to myself I wish I was closer to see that spot, thanks to your photos I was able to see it. Congratulations.

Re: Nice

Hey, thanks for the good words... I imagine you'd be able to stomp up the spire later this summer - early july just seems to be asking for some unwanted routefinding problems. Cheers!
