Things have changed  Sucess!

Climbed again in April of '09. The summit had been manicured quite a bit since '96. Better views and easier to find. Definitely check out the "smallest" church nearby!

My 2nd highpoint  Sucess!

After reading some of the previous posts, I was paying very close attention for the roadsigns. Luckily I spotted a small white "Maryland Highpoint" sign up a tree. This was a really nice little hike after driving nonstop from Mt. Davis, PA. Enjoyed lunch at the picnic table at the summit, signed the logbook and on my way. Despite the fact that it was a beautiful fall day, I had the whole place to myself going up and coming down.

Nice little hike  Sucess!

Nice hike, road sign with "HP" on back must have been replaced it is no longer there. Trail pretty well marked. 2nd HP for the day also did spruce knob (for the 2nd time this year) and Mt. davis.

Finally  Sucess!

Nice hike for a sister and brother who were always going to do it but never did...until 6-10-2010. Must have passed this place more times than I can count in my 50+ years. If you put off something long enough, you don't have to do it. So my sister and I decided to go. Fairly easy hike even for someone as old as me and not in peak shape. Except for the pile of rotting deer carcasses near the entrance, it was great. It was my first high point I didn't just drive by and say..."I have to climb there one day."

Not Sure When  Sucess!

Not exactly certain when I did this climb but my guess would be at about age 12. I remember the Sign at the summit and thinking that the hike was pretty easy by even my young standards.

hiked in the fog  Sucess!

Hiked in the fog, which was probably a good thing since I didn't see the mining operations to the east that I could hear. Sixth highpoint on this trip, starting with Mount Sunflower.

Backbone Mountain  Sucess!

Against our better judgement my friend and I completed the trip through 3 1/2 feet of snow, with my denim gaiters and artic tennis shoes, to make the summit. Cold day but beautiful views.

Nice HP  Sucess!

Grossed out by a hunter's dismantled deer carcass, but a nice HP, although we were a little scared since it was the first day of deer season.

HP 33  Sucess!

Drove down from Pittsburgh with Sarah for a trifecta highpoint weekend. We hit Mt Davis and Backbone Mountain on Oct 23rd with fellow SPer xDoogiex. Sarah and I then hit Spruce Knob the following morning. We timed the autumn color change perfectly. Sadly, it was foggy on the 23rd and our visibility was pretty limited. Happily, we woke up the next morning to clear skies and were able to enjoy beautiful views on Spruce Knob.

State Highpoint #2  Sucess!

Fun little hike. Somewhat hard to find, but managed to see the little "Maryland Highpoint" sign way up in the trees. Very appropriate name for a spiny little backbone on the high point of the hill.

I'm out of shape.  Sucess!

For Pete's sake, I got really tired from this puny hike. Errk! But it was a nice hike, the view was pretty, and the early morning smells were quite pleasant.

HP #19  Sucess!

View from the top is rare for an eastern highpoint without an observation tower. Thanks to whoever cut those trees down!
