Lookout visit
Drove up and visited with the lookout and her german shepard. There was lightning nearby so I didn't stay long.

Nice hike
Parked near Jones Valley. Nice hike, very scenic. Ranger working look out very friendly, answered all our questions. Nice views of Mt. Lassen, Sierra Buttes, Mt. Rose, Reno, Cold Springs, Mohak Valley, Loyalton, Boca, Stampede. Worth the visit.

Met another peakbagger
Near the top, a small street sedan pulled off the road to let me by. In talking with the driver I found out it was none other than Dick Ellsworth, a very prolific county highpointer that I had known about for 12 years. We had a great chat before we separated to our various pursuits and I went up and tagged the highest spot before having a chance to visit with the lookout person for a few minutes. The road up was in good condition and the views from the lookout, outstanding.

Drive up
Rounded out a two day peakbagging romp by driving up this one to the fire lookout, chatted with the nice woman manning the station and pet her friendly German Shepherd for about 10 minutes. Great views! TR is HERE.

Still an Actively Manned Fire Lookout
As of 8/29/2014 this is still a drive up. The road is a little rocky but all and all in good shape and was a fast drive up in my Jeep. The fire lookout tower remains manned by a very friendly woman. The true summit is a 30 second walk north of the tower, past a small antenna with a solar panel. I found a benchmark but no register there. It was late in the day and the sun was setting directly behind the Sierra Buttes, making for a stunning view.
