Attempted Lines on Sargents/Green Butte Ridge

Attempted Lines on Sargents/Green Butte Ridge

January 10, 2010 - These are the ways I took on my failed January 10th attempt at Sargents Ridge and my successful February 15th attempt at Green Butte Ridge. Each number indicates where we were turned back by the route not "going". #5 is actually the way to go, but it didn't look too promising until I eliminated the remaining options! A couple of the dead ends on the February climb were more from my partner being too eager to climb upwards, even though I kept telling him to stay lower.

Excellent description of the Green Butte crux

Awesome annotation!

My partner and I got turned around on this section earlier today. Its too bad I didn't see this before our trip. We made exactly the same mistake you made on your January 10th attempt (blue line).

Re: Excellent description of the Green Butte crux

Thanks! Although I risk destroying some people's adventure on this route, I thought it necessary to show this section, since every mention of the route glosses over this part with "ascend the ridge, passing Thumb Rock to the left", which is hard not to do if you can actually get to it.

Best of luck on your next attempt!

Re: Great beta photo

Thanks for the feedback. Beta photos always seem to come out under appreciated in the votes, but they're so valuable. - Mark
