Cutebut this isn't a chipmunk - it's a golden-mantled ground squirrel. How to tell the difference? If it has stripes on its face as well as its back, it's a chipmunk. This cutie only has the stripes on its back...

Re: CuteI just figured you missed the caption. Keema even put a link to the Golden Mantled guy on his comment. I used "chipmunk" because that was what my granddson thought it was. When I explained it was a ground squirrel, he just gave me a blank look. I appreciate your comments and also all the great pics you post.

Looks like even2% capsaicin won't come close to stopping this guy: "Do not seek out encounters with chipmunks. Wicked Good!Story. Last time I was camping near a lake, just after dark, I swear, I could definatly hear a pack of these varmits just outside my tent. Made me a little nervous.
Do you think Pepper Spray would be sufficient to ward off an attack, or is something a little potent needed?
