At the top of Grand Central Couloir

Andy reaches the saddle between the North and South Summits of Nokhu Crags. Deteriorating snow conditions convinced us to forego a summit attempt and beat a hasty retreat. It proved the right decision. Never Summer Range, May 2006.

Good idea !!!

From those snowballs rolling down below, I'd guess, you made the right choice about getting out of there.
Have you tried the North Ridge/Gullies Route?

Re: Good idea !!!

We saw quite a few wet avalanches after getting back to safe ground. We made the right choice, but we were also lucky to have enough time to put it into effect. It was my first time at Nokhu Crags. We looked at the North Ridge, and we tried to understand where the route goes, but it will have to wait for another occasion.

Re: Good idea !!!

If I remember correctly, the North Ridge/Gullies Route was pretty straight forward. Just go up the ridge until you get to the cliffs, then take the steep, rotten gully that looks best. I don't remember much of a route finding problem. We didn't use the rope on the way up, but did use it for a hand line to get past an icy place in the gully on the way down.
