Dennis, Do you recall what the ridge down to Dollar Lake looked like from the summit of Aneroid? I'm headed there in a week and was hoping to hike south from the summit of Aneroid down to Dollar Lake to camp. Is it an open easy ridge or anything that looks scrambly? I'll be with a dog so can't do any climbing or scrambling and was hoping it would be easy going.
Thanks,
Brian
Brian, I just got back from a trip to WA. I wasn't doing any route finding beyond Aneroid because I was in a hurry to get back to the last tram down the mountain. I don't recall any cliffs. This is a pic I took looking south to Dollar lake. http://www.summitpost.org/image/127485/150916/looking-south-from-aneroid.html An experienced dog shouldn't have any problem.
For 6/15/2013 to 9/15/2013 the tram has extended hours: First ride up 9:00 AM, Last ride down 5:45 PM. This provides two extra hours to do the ridge walk from Mount Howard over East and Hidden Peaks to Aneroid Mountain and back. In my case I hiked down from Aneroid and up Dollar Ridge, then out to Wallowa Lake via the East Fork Trail.
