Ah, nice trip report

I really enjoyed reading this account. It's been years since I've been atop "Y" Mountain and I never got to the true high point. Dean, it sounds like you beat the significant amount of snow by 3 or 4 days. My son called me this morning after he and his cousin spent the night on Maple Flat (the other side of Slide Canyon). He says they woke up to a foot of snow. I asked if they had bagged Maple Mountain. He said they saw how much snow they had and high-tailed it out-a-there.

Tracy, its interesting to note that i had plannned to do Maple Mtn today but as your son found out, it snowed during the night. Probably about 4 inches in Orem at the moment and still coming down. Where does your son live? Provo? Thanks for your comments
and votes.

Re: Ah, nice trip report

My son is a student at BYU - he and his cousin live on campus in Helaman Halls. It sounds like they didn't plan for the obvious snow conditions. Sometimes they gotta learn firsthand - the hard way. He said they had tennis shoes and he had no sleeping pad. I bet the cold ground kept him turning all night. They did have a tent though. I'll email/PM you re: a couple of other items I wanted to chat with you about.
