A shot I took from the North...
A shot I took from the North Ridge of Anderl Mannhardt
climbing the Cassin route, August 2004. Mannhardt did the first
winter ascent of the Eiger north face back in '61 [he's 63], and the third
ascent of Nanga Parbat in '62, by a new route. Here he's climbing with no
toes thanks to a bivy above 26,000 ft on that climb. We had
seen him approaching the face the night before on crutches.
He was unimpressed with his time of 6 hours to the summit.
