Re: The Black Forest

Hi Larry,

Here is a picture of what's left of the house 2-doors down and across the street:

I stood there with my neighbor looking at a gray pit that used to be his home...what can you say to someone who just suffered this loss? There are no words.

I was here at the house when the fire blew up - I work from a home office (management consultant). Neighbors came by in a) a truck b) on ATV to tell me to get the #*%! out. The plume was already massive, the fire grew so quickly!

Re: The Black Forest

Wow Sarah, what used to be your neighbor's home, nothing left but a pile of ash. And what a moment for you to have folks come to your door to tell you to leave, now! Having survived that, it sounds like you have a great life going there. Is your company your own or are you a part of a larger company? What climbs are you thinking to do next?
A great day to you Sarah, -Larry

Re: The Black Forest

Larry,

Naw, I'm a "company consultant," not an independent consultant. Pros and cons to both approaches, but I enjoy the challenge of consulting with the stability of a company paycheck. :)

This summer climbing season is off to a very slow start due to all the crap I've been grappling with. Nothing too exciting on the immediate horizon, though I do have a trip planned in September to visit Dallas Peak and Coxcomb in the San Juans. What about you?

Re: The Black Forest

Your career sounds like the best of both worlds, consulting without having to sweat the employment process.
Sorry to hear you're not getting out as much as you'd like. I'll have to look up the San Juans to see where you'll be heading. Over here, I'm getting out a lot, all things considered, and have my hopes up for some exploring in the Tetons and to get to Rainier before the season's up.
I hope you're having a great day there Sarah. I'm off now to pow wow with a buddy who guides for a living, mainly fishing. Now there's a decent career for an outdoorsman who likes to chase fishies!
