A Crack

A Crack

Bruce getting ready to launch up the overhanging handcrack section while leading A Crack on Orchard Rock. The rating on this pitch is a sandbag, 5.7 haha. The rock on this route is really good, and not sandy at all like some of the other lines.

Bees!

I rappelled this yesterday (9/18/11), with intent to top-rope it, but found there's a honeybee nest right in this section! They were also using the connecting tunnel to the Gully route, but they let me climb up the Gully to return to my partners & gear.
If I'd stood at the bottom and watched the crack a while, I'd probably have noticed before rapping through the cloud.
Nobody got stung, and we were careful not to disturb them any more. Honeybees at the edge of an orchard are an invaluable resource.
